A Cleveland County sheriff’s lieutenant is without a job after he allegedly pulled a knife on a man. Allegedly the officer had parked in a handicap spot and the victim was questioning him about it.
According to reports, Lt. Steve Smith resigned after 18 years on Friday after Shelby police began investigating an argument that apparently went too far.
The incident started early Friday morning when Smith parked outside a gas station and walked inside to buy beer. When he came out of the store, a man in another car commented that Smith parked in a handicap spot. Smith then pulled a knife out and held it to the man’s throat. A fight followed, Smith was thrown to the ground and ended up cutting the other man’s hand.
The victim’s name and what charges Smith faces have not been released.
