In a public statement made by the families of Ray Pierce and Jake Ziegler, it was announced that a candlelight vigil will be held in the teen’s memory on Friday night. The memorial service will take place at Bandy’s High School at 6:15 PM on the band practice field.

A funeral service for both teens will take place 2:00 Saturday afternoon in Mooresville. It will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, which is located at 494 East Plaza Drive.

On Sunday afternoon, volunteers with Community United Effort (CUE) found the car Ziegler and Pierce were driving. The vehicle was upside-down underwater near the Wateree River, which is off of Interstate 20 in Kershaw County, South Carolina. Autopsies revealed that the teenagers had drowned.

The two friends, both seniors at Bandys High School, had left a Catawba County party shortly after 1:00 AM on October 13th. They were headed to watch the sun rise in Myrtle Beach. Authorities believe their car went off the left side of the road and down a steep embankment.

The teens’ families requested that donations in the boys’ memory be made to the CUE Center for Missing Persons in lieu of flowers. CUE is a non-profit agency that helps find missing persons. The agent’s dedication and hard work led to closure for these two families.
