Family Dollar Clerk Nearly Stabbed in Robbery Attempt

CMPD is looking for this suspect in a Saturday evening robbery.

Police in Charlotte are on the lookout for the suspect who nearly stabbed a Family Dollar store cashier in a Saturday night robbery attempt. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say that a man waked in the Family Dollar story located on South Tryon Street that evening and got the cashier to open the cash register by acting as if he was making a purchase.

The suspect attempted to snatch the cash out of the drawer as soon as it was opened. When the cashier closed the drawer right back, the suspect attempted to stab the cashier with a screwdriver. The suspect then fled the scene in a black Chevy SUV that could have been a Tahoe. Luckily, the cashier wasn’t hurt.

The suspect is described as a black male standing 6’3″ tall, weighing over 300 pounds, and approximately 30 years of age. If you have any helpful information on this suspect, please call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
