One Boston Bombing Suspect Dead, One On The Run After A Shootout With Police

BOSTON, MASS – A very short time after the FBI asked for the public’s assistance to help identify two suspects in the Boston Marathon Bombing, one suspect is dead and one is on the run.  Police and all kinds of tactical teams, SWAT, State Agents, sharp shooters, National Guard and more are, have swarmed into the towns of Cambridge and Watertown, Mass.

Mass transit has been shut down, MIT and Harvard University are shut down.  The citizens have been asked to stay indoors.  The schools, public buildings and businesses all over Boston are closed.  There are potentially live explosives on the streets of the town, there is an armed and dangerous man on the lose.  Governor Patrick is urging everyone to stay home for their own safety.

On Thursday evening, FBI released several photographs – screen grabs from video – and video from the Lord and Taylor Store across the street from the blasts.  The photos depict one young man in a dark cap and another in a white cap worn backward, both wearing backpacks and one walking behind the other on the sidewalk near the finish line. They called the man in the dark cap – a Bridgestone Golf cap – suspect #1.  Suspect #2, the man in the white hat was seen setting down a backpack at the site of the second explosion, said Richard DesLauriers, FBI agent in charge in Boston. The FBI hoped by releasing the photographs the public would supply tips that would identify the suspects.

Releasing the photos triggered the terrorists to launch the second wave of planned attacks. First, Cambridge police said an MIT officer was responding to a report of a disturbance on campus when he was shot multiple times late Thursday night.  That man later died at a hospital.  His name was not immediately released.

Then a man was car-jacked by two men.  That car-jack victim was able to get away when the men stopped for gas.  He ran into a 7-11 store screaming at the worker to call 9/11. Police quickly spotted the stolen car and gave chase.  The men in the car were throwing explosives out of the car and shooting at police. During the shootings one officer was injured and taken to the hospital.  He’s currently in critical condition.  One of the car-jackers was shot multiple times.  He was also taken to the hospital but was dead from gun shots as well as shrapnel wounds.  The second man managed to get away.  The man is considered armed and very dangerous.

Police believe the two men, believed to be the suspects from Monday’s terror attack, are brothers, possibly from Chechnya or Turkey.  Suspect #1, the man photographed in the dark hat, was killed.  Suspect #2, the man on the loose has been identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass. They are believed to have been here for ‘several years,’ sources said. “We believe this to be a terrorist,” said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis of the suspect still at large. “We believe this to be a man who has come here to kill people. We need to get him in custody.”

You can see all the photographs and video at fbi.gov.  They are still asking anyone who was at the marathon taking pictures or video to go back through your footage.  If you see either of these men in your pictures you are urged to contact the FBI.  If you have any information you’re asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or contact them at their website at bostonmarathontips.fbi.gov
