FBI Raid Leads to 5 Arrests in CherryvilleUPDATE: Four police officers have been arrested in connection with conspiracy to transport/receive stolen goods. Three officers worked for the Cherryville Police Department, while one was a Gaston County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy.

The officers are accused of agreeing to help protect vehicles that were transporting stolen goods through the area. In reality, the officers were conspiring with undercover agents. They now face a host of charges including extortion, bribery, money laundering, and transporting stolen property.

All morning long FBI agents have been inside and around the area of the Cherryville Police Department and City Hall and now five people have been arrested. Agents were also seen taking evidence out of the back door of the police station. This investigation began back in 2011 after some financial irregularities were discovered.

Last December a city work was fired after being accused of using a city credit card for personal expenses, spending nearly $4,000. Then this past June, City Manager David Hodgkins was fired.
