CHERRYVILLE, N.C. – A former Cherryville softball coach is facing added sex crime charges.

Police allege David Edison Curtis, 47, of Vale, engaged in a sexual act with two girls this year and another girl last year. All of his accusers were younger than 13 at the time they said the incidents occurred. Curtis was charged Friday with four counts of indecent liberties.

Curtis was previously charged Nov. 20 with first-degree sex offense against a minor.

Police say the incident that led to that charge happened sometime between June 1, 2012, and Aug. 30, 2012, when Curtis would have been 46 years old.

The more recent allegations involve two 10-year-old girls. Police say those incidents happened between August and October of this year.

Curtis previously served as a coach for Cherryville’s Dixie Softball league.  He served in the volunteer role as recently as this fall, according to another coach with the organization. Dixie Softball is an all-girl league for ages 18 and younger.

The original charge was not associated with the softball team, said Cherryville Police Detective Mark Stout. Curtis knew the first girl because he was a family friend.

Curtis has remained in jail since his Nov. 20 charge. His bond was raised this week from $250,000 secured to $350,000 secured.
