CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon has received his prison assignment.

Officials say he will report to federal prison on November 18th.  He will serve his 44 month sentence at a prison in West Virginia.

Cannon is currently in federal court facing a judge for violating the conditions of his bond by illegally voting in the midterm election.

Cannon became a convicted felon after he pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges.  It is illegal for felons to vote in elections.

U.S. District Court Judge Frank Whitney could force Cannon to immediately begin his prison sentence for violating his bond.  This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
