Fort Mill Dance Teacher Accused of Touching Student Inappropriately

StevenEdgarMabryThe man who was arrested Friday for alleged sexual assault on a student of the dance studio he operated was also accused of touching the boy inappropriately over five years, according to Fort Mill police Monday.

The student reported Friday that Eddie Mabry, 51, touched him inappropriately at a dance program Mabry ran in a recreation complex in Fort Mill, Maj. Bryan Zachary with Fort Mill Police said.

The student is now an adult but was 14 when the alleged assaults started, Zachary said.

According to the former student, who has not been identified, he started taking classes from Mabry at age seven and later worked for him at the studio.

Police arrested Mabry in Mecklenburg County Friday on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and statutory rape.

Zachary said the man has not been charged in Fort Mill. Huntersville and Fort Mill police will meet Monday to continue investigating the allegations.

According to Mabry’s lawyer, George Laughrun, Mabry strongly denies the charges in North Carolina.

Laughrun is expected be in Charlotte court Monday at 1 p.m. on Mabry’s behalf.

Mabry was the operator of Eddie Mabry Talent located in the Leroy Spring recreation complex for around 20 years. After the arrest, the program was indefinitely suspended by officials at the complex.

Mabry was released from Mecklenburg County jail Friday on $15,000 bond.
