Four Law Enforcement Officers Shot During Manhunt

Four law enforcement officers from York County were shot during a manhunt on Monday.

The incident began as a call reporting domestic violence at a residence in York County. Police responded to the home at 3042 Farrier Lane where officers say that the suspect was actively assaulting a female at the time of the call. When police arrived, however, the suspect, 47-year-old Christian Thomas McCall had fled from the home into a nearby wooded area.

A manhunt began at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, and it stretched into the early hours of Tuesday. Employed on the job were 47 York County K-9 Units, as well as members of the SWAT team and other York County officials.

The first shooting took place at around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday. According to officials, McCall opened fire and a K-9 Unit Officer was struck, though leaving the officer’s bloodhound uninjured.

More than two hours later, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the suspect opened fire again, this time injuring three York County sheriff’s deputies that were on the case.

The first injured officer was taken to Piedmont Medical Center. Two of the sheriff’s deputies were taken by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center Main Campus, and the other was taken to CMC by ground. A helicopter flying over the area was also shot, but was able to land safely with no injuries on board.

Of the four injured officers, one, identified as York County Detective Mike Doty, is listed as being in critical condition. The other three injured were identified as York County Sgt. Buddy Brown, York City Police Stg. Kyle Cummings, and Sgt. Randy Clinton.

During the incident, McCall also received gunshot wounds and has been taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he may need surgery.

Upon being released from the hospital, the suspect will be arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder for three of the injured officers. Charges are pending for the fourth as prosecutors wait on the status of Doty’s condition.

Officers stated that they had been to McCall’s house before in 2015 on another domestic call. He is listed as being arrested in 1994 in Florence for assaulting a law officer, simple assault, and resisting arrest.
