GASTONIA, N.C. – Gastonia Police detectives are investigating an overnight shooting on North Weldon Street. According to police reports, the victim, 43-year-old Roger Anthony Mason, was injured at his home on North Weldon Street in Gastonia .
Mason was shot multiple times around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to emergency workers. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The male shooter was an acquaintance of Mason.
Shots were fired after an argument escalated between the two, according to police reports.
The incident appeared to be drug-related, Detective Jimmy Arndt with Gastonia Police said.
“It wasn’t necessarily a drug deal gone bad,” Arndt said. “But it was drug-related.”
Mason and the suspect were the only ones involved in the shooting and argument, Arndt said.
He was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where he is expected to recover.
Warrants have been obtained for the suspect, but he has not yet been apprehended. Police have not released the name of the shooter.
