Gaston County Woman Bitten In Face, Throat By Dog

Gaston County SealGASTONIA, N.C. – Police in Gastonia are investigating after a woman says she was attacked by a neighbor’s dog and was bitten on her face and throat.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, 70-year-old Ophelia Perez was walking her small dog along Efird Street on Tuesday night.

That’s when Perez says her neighbor’s 3-year-old husky got out of the back yard and ran at her small dog.

Perez told police she tried to grab her dog away when she was knocked to the ground. That is when the husky began biting her face and throat.

The owner of the husky reportedly saw the incident and chased the dog away and then called for medical assistance.

Police say Perez was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with lacerations on her neck and face. She reportedly lost a lot of blood.

Gaston County Animal Control was able to capture the dog and take it to the shelter. The husky will remain in quarantine for 10 days.

The owner told police he does not want the dog back. No charges have been filed in the case.
