Homeless Man Charged With Threatening, Assaulting Officer

William Dorsha Hamright JrRock Hill police said they arrested a homeless man on Sunday for striking an officer and knocking off his eyeglasses and also for carrying several knives.

25-year-old William Dorsha Hamright Jr. is facing charges of threatening the life of a public official, trespassing and unlawful carrying of a weapon, and assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest, the Rock Hill police report shows.

The incident began on Thursday at 9 a.m. when an officer was called to the 1000 block of Riverview Road about a man sleeping in the business center of a hotel. It was believed by the employees there that the man had been put on trespass notice before, but he had left the hotel before police arrived there.

After Hamright was found at a Waffle House nearby and identified as the person sleeping at the hotel, the officer approach him and commanded him to stop.

When Hamright ignored the commands and reach for his waistband, the officer grabbed his wrist, police said. Hamright then hit the officer’s face and knocked his glasses off. A person passing by helped the officer to subdue Hamright.

During the arrest, Hamright also threatened to kill the officer, his family, and any white officer after he was released from jail, the report shows.

According to the police report, it was later found that Hamright had four separate 2-inch knife blades.
