Inmate Found Dead In York County Jail Cell

Cell barsYORK COUNTY, S.C. – Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of an inmate found in his cell on Sunday night.

Around 9:15 Sunday, a detention officer found Leonard Daniel Savercool, Jr., of Salisbury, lying in the floor of his cell unconscious and not breathing.

EMS was called, but Savercool was pronounced deceased.

The York County Sheriff’s Office, York County Coroner’s Office and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating Savercool’s death.

Savercool was booked in to the York County Detention Center on Friday on charges out of Fort Mill for petit larceny and entering premises after warning.
