STATESVILLE, N.C. – A man already in jail was served with charges in connection to a rape that occurred nearly four years ago.

Scottie Dewayne Davidson, 26, was charged Monday with first degree rape and armed robbery.

The crime happened in early August of 2010 behind a church building on the 1100 block of Goldsboro Avenue in Statesville.

Officials say the victim, who had been “severely assaulted,” went to a nearby home for help and was taken to the hospital.

Investigators gathered evidence, conducted interviews, and eventually identified Davidson as a potential suspect in the case.

On Friday, May 2, warrants were obtained on Davidson, who was already in custody at the Iredell County Detention Center on unrelated charges.

Monday he was served with the charges and given a $1 million bond.
