GASTONIA, N.C. – A Gastonia man has been charged with striking another man with a hammer.
Matthew Steven Black, 42, faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Black came onto another man’s property on Huffman Road in Gastonia on Saturday and began to threaten the man’s girlfriend with a knife, according to an arrest warrant and affidavit. When the man intervened, Black came after him with a hammer and struck him in the face, causing a laceration along the bridge of the nose. Black then picked up a branch and began to strike the man in the body, according to the affidavit.
Black was held at the Gaston County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
