Police in Gastonia took one man into custody after shots were fired during a standoff on Wednesday.
Police and SWAT were sent to a home in the 200 block of East 5th Avenue Wednesday morning to assist with a man who was having mental issues. The man refused to come out of his home and shots were fired during the incident.
Officers with the SWAT team evacuated homes located on the street before they took the man out of his house. SWAT members were able to get into the man’s home and arrest him. EMS was called out to the scene to check the suspect before he was taken into custody by Gastonia police.
No one was injured and authorities have not released the man’s name.
