Man Charged After Taking Infant From Home

A man was charged after he took a 9-month-old infant from a home without the permission of the mother.

The incident occurred in Rock Hill on Friday morning. According to Rock Hill Police, the child was at the grandmother’s home when 28-year-old Gabriel L’Ambiance Ingram approached the home in his Ram pickup truck and took the child from the home.

Rock Hill police immediately notified Lancaster police that the suspect may be heading back to the area. The suspect was spotted inside his vehicle driving north on Highway 5. The Lancaster deputy attempted a traffic stop, but Ingram refused to stop, speeding away from the deputy and eventually losing control of the vehicle after trying to make a u-turn at North Corner Road.

The suspect then abandoned the car and fled on foot, successfully avoiding arrest at that time. Police searched the vehicle and found a Glock .40 caliber handgun as well as marijuana.

A manhunt began to try to locate Ingram as well as the infant. K-9 units were employed as well as members of the State Law Enforcement Division.

Later that morning, the suspect was recognized in a Bojangles in Indian Land. Officers arrived at the location on Collins Road and arrested the man on the scene.

Police were able to locate the child at a home in Rock Hill and were able to recover the infant who was unharmed.

Charges relating to the incident in Rock Hill are still pending, but Ingram has already been charged with possession of marijuana, failure to stop for blue light and siren, possession of a pistol by a person convicted of a crime of violence, driving under suspension, and carrying a pistol.
