Brother of Suspect in 2 Murders Charged with Accessory After Fact

A man who is the brother of Peter James River Jr., who killed a woman and her son, has been charged by Gaston County police with accessory after the fact in the crime.

Darrell Wayne Rivers, 39, was arrested this week for offering advice and instructions to his brother on avoiding getting caught after the murders, police said. Charlotte-Mechklenburg authorities helped in the arrest.

Brother Peter James Rivers Jr, 40, was charged in the murders of 38-year-old Bridget McCall Berry and her 17-year-old son Treyvon “TJ” Berry, both of Mount Holly. The bodies of both victims were found in a house fire at the 600 block of Ridgewood Court on Feb. 9.

Peter Rivers lived with the victims and was dating Bridget Berry, according to investigators.

Peters Rivers received two counts of first-degree murder.
