Police charged a Mount Holly man with DWI for his involvement in a collision after veering off the road on Friday.
Besides the driving while impaired charge, Larry Evan Nicolay, 58, of 1123 Kelly Road, has also been charged with driving with a revoked license.
Nicolay was driving his 1996 Lincoln near Belmont on a rural road when he drove his vehicle off the right side of the road, off the shoulder, and hit a police, the affidavit shows.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper L.T. Randall reported Nicolay had slurred speech, glassy and red eyes, and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol.
Nicolay submitted to a breath test at Gaston County Jail and showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.17, over twice the legal limit. He was held on a $5,000 and is set to appear in court on July 1.
