Man Hit While Trimming Church’s Grass

Don Lowery had been cutting the grass at the Holy Band of Inspiration church in Monroe every Saturday morning for decades. That is where he lost his life this past Saturday morning. Lowery was cutting the grass when Ronald Sutton ran off the road and hit Lowery, killing him. His wife was the pastor at the church and they had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Sutton wasn’t drunk or on drugs but couldn’t tell troopers why he ran off the road. Troopers think he may have been speeding. He spent a few hours in the hospital because he was injured, but after that was released to go home.  He is facing misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving without a license.

Lowery’s family says this isn’t enough- that Sutton should be charged with more. Misdemeanors do not carry long, if any, jail sentences. The investigation is still open and more charges could come.
