Man In Custody After Shooting, Killing Man In Monroe

MONROE, N.C. – A man has been arrested after a man was shot and killed in Monroe Friday evening.

According to officials, the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Sonoco gas station on Franklin Street.

The victim, identified as Necole Demont Horne, was shot several times, and later died. Horne was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center – Union.

The shooter, Christopher Jermareus Thomas, who police said had a 4-month-old child in his vehicle, left the scene, but was soon spotted driving on Highway 74. When police tried to catch up to him, they said he ran a red light, crossed a median, then crashed into three other cars.

The victims injured in the crash are expected to be okay. The child was not injured.

Thomas was not injured and was taken into custody. He will be charged with Murder, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Discharging a Firearm Inside the City Limits, and numerous driving charges.

Police have not said what may have led to the shooting.
