Man Leads Matthews, Union Police Chase Up to 100 MPH

Police LightsA man drove his vehicle up to 100 mph before crashing when trying to escape Matthews police Wednesday in Monroe, Officer Tim Aycock said.

42-year-old Buster Marshall has been charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, resisting, obstructing and delaying law officers, assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by a felon, and speeding 100 mph in a 55 mph area.

Marshall is suspected to have been part of a domestic incident in the 9900 block of Matthews Park Drive police were initially responding to before the chase, which started around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Marshall refused to stop his vehicle for police, according to Aycock.

The pursuit led police into Union County, at which point sheriff’s investigators in the county took over the chase.

After reaching the speed of 100 mph, Marshall finally crashed his car at the 2300 block of West Roosevelt Blvd where he was then arrested.

There were no reported injuries in the chase.
