TROUTMAN, N.C. – A man escaped Tuesday after allegedly attempting to open a fraudulent bank account and leading a police chase through Iredell County.
Police responded to BB&T Bank on Wagner Street for a fraud call around 1 p.m.
Investigators say the man tried to open an account with a stolen New Jersey ID. As officers arrived, he allegedly hopped into his BMW and drove off at a high rate of speed.
The man is accused of leading a pursuit from Highway 21 to I-77. Police lost the vehicle around exit 36.
The car is described as a green BMW 5 Series, possibly with Georgia plates.
Bank employees say the man has a Caribbean accent.
One officer was hurt during the incident when the man fled the bank.
