GASTONIA, N.C. – A Gastonia police officer was injured Sunday night while trying to arrest a man who was assaulting a bailbonds agent, according to police.

The suspect, Lumarris Guinn, 22, remains on the loose and police seek the public’s help in locating him.

The incident began around 8:40 p.m. Sunday with a reported assault call at 215 E. Garrison Blvd., across from the Water Tower shopping area. When police arrived around 9 p.m. an assault was taking place, said Gastonia Police Sgt. N.R. Capistran.

“He was assaulting a woman bail bondsman. They were trying to locate him and pick him up on some warrants they had on him,” Capistran said.

The female police officer then attempted to arrest Guinn, but he fled in a black PT Cruiser, possibly striking the officer as he left. The female officer was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released, Capistran said.

Capistran would not release the name of the officer.

Police would find the PT Cruiser a short time later a few blocks away on West Sixth Avenue.

“We’re just looking for him,” Capistran said Monday morning. “Any information that leads to his arrest would be greatly appreciated.”

If anyone knows Guinn’s whereabouts should either call 911 or Gastonia Police at 704-866-6702.

Guinn is 5 foot 7 and weighed 140 pounds at the time of his arrest in 2011.
