Man Pleads Not Guilty in Drug Overdose Death

AR-160429164A Cramerton man accused in the death of another man he provided with drugs is pleading not guilty.

Jacob Scott Russell, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Matthew Austin Loughman, 46.

According to investigators, Russell injected a lethal dose of drugs into Loughman’s veins. The man died of drug overdose and was found dead in his home on Mayflower Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on May 15.

Police said the man had been dead for over 48 hours when he was found.

Russell was initially arrested for alleged breaking and entering and larceny on July 29. With the murder charge, he could face decades in prison.

He has been held on a $505,000 bond.
