Man Tried To Run Over Store Owner After Being Asked To Leave

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. —Officers said a man tried to run over the co-owner of a video store after he was asked to leave, according to a news release.

Gaston County police were called to Laura’s Video, 4008 Kings Mountain Highway, on Saturday night. Herbert Bartz, the co-owner of the store, said Robert Keith Bland hit him with his vehicle and then fled the scene.

Bland was later caught in Cleveland County, where he was charged with DWI. He was later charged with attempted first-degree murder. He is in custody at the Gaston County Jail on a $750,000 secured bond.

Bland has been previously convicted on charges of DWI, assault, and drunk and disruptive.

Bartz was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
