Monroe Man Finds Out About Missing Sister’s Death 42 Years Later

RunawayColdCaseA Monroe man has been given some answers in the disappearance of his sister since 1973.

Tim Young’s sister Janice Marie Young ran away from home 42 years ago to escape abuse from their Virginia adoptive home.

Young said his sister left one day after they got off the school bus, and he didn’t ever see her again.

However, Young continued to search for his sister and found a sketch online of a female that looked like his sister and listed the person as an unidentified teen and 1973 homicide victim in Florida.

Young contacted St. Petersburg police who informed him the victim had been pushed into traffic by a man. The suspect had been arrested but not prosecuted and it became a cold case. The body of the teen had been exhumed later, but investigators hadn’t been able to put the missing pieces together without DNA or a name.

Police sent Young a DNA kit. He was a match and it confirmed the teen was his sister.

Young said the news was devastating to him and that his sister had been a free spirit.

But Young said at least he can now bring his sister where she belongs—at home with him.
