Monroe Officer on Administrative Leave for DWI

7200 Nash (1)A police officer in Monroe has been charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired and placed on administrative leave.

After being called to 2200 W. Roosevelt Blvd. on Thursday around 6:50 p.m. about a possible medical call, Officer Darren Lee Nash, 34, was found in a vehicle that was not a police car and determined to be impaired.

Nash refused to take an Intoxylizer test after being taken to the Union County jail, according to Hovanec. He was released and is set to show up in court May 11.

According to city spokesman Pete Hovanec, authorities are conducting an internal investigation.

Nash was one of nine officers who were suspended without pay in 2013 for a week due to how they handled cases, which led to the dismissal of charges against 39 people by the Union County district attorney.

According to the city, the officers did not provide sufficient files for the district attorney’s office to prosecute the cases. The officers also sometimes didn’t submit drugs for analysis at a lab, impeding prosecution further.

Nash has been an officer with the Monroe Police Department since Nov. 17, 2008. He is the son of Dottie Nash, former City Council member.
