CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother and her boyfriend were arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in the death of her 1-year-old child. Jade Sheree Butler, 22, and Antonio Fernelle Cathey, 21, are both facing murder charges.
The victim is Kyiemani Aveah Brewer, according to CMPD.
Police responded to the 3200 block of Nobles Ave on Friday at 8:24 p.m. after receiving a call about an infant that wasn’t responding. Medic transported Brewer to Carolinas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
After consulting with the Medical Examiner’s Office, CMPD concluded that Brewer was physically assaulted, which led to her death. Butler and Cathey were arrested Saturday and transported to CMPD headquarters.
After interviewing Butler and Cathey, CMPD charged both with murder and felony child abuse. Butler and Cathey are in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
