LONG VIEW, N.C. – A Catawba County mother is now facing charges after her boyfriend is accused of murdering her toddler son and injuring her three-year-old daughter.

According to the Long View Police Department, Whitney Ann Weathers was arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of Felony Child Abuse.

Weathers’ boyfriend, William Howard Lail III, is being held in prison after police say he killed 20-month-old Jaydon Sandlin and injured Jaydon’s 3 year old sister, Kylie.

Arrest warrants released earlier this week state that officers found probable cause to believe Lail “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did intentionally inflict serious physical injury, scalding burns to the buttocks and back of both legs,” of the 20-month-old child.

The warrants state the 3-year-old girl had scalding burns on her head, shoulders, legs and feet.

A search warrant says Lail attempted CPR but was unsuccessful. Witnesses reported seeing excessive water and white fluid coming from the nose and mouth of little Jaydon. The report also noted burns on the little boy’s body that appeared recent.

Lail was denied bond in court and mouthed “I love you” to his family as he was led away in handcuffs. He also faces two counts of first degree child abuse and violating his probation.

The children’s mother, Weathers, also had an outstanding order for arrest for Failure to Appear, for speeding and for driving without a driver’s license. She’s being held on a $41,000 bond.
