No updates have been released in the death Friday of Appalachian State University student Michael Cameron, 23, of Charlotte.

Paramedics received a call around 9:45 p.m. on Friday to an apartment complex at 325 Yosef Drive, off U.S. 421.

Schmitt was found there in medical distress, and later died at Watauga Medical Center.

Schmitt’s death was at least the eighth to happen at ASU, which has 18,000 students, since the beginning of the semester in August.

Two have been from traffic accidents, four were ruled suicides, and two others are pending a medical examiner report, including Schmitt’s.

According to police, no indication of foul play was shown in Shmitt’s death, which remains under investigation. No other details have been released.

The amount of deaths at ASU this year is unusual. State Medical Examiner records show only 12 reported deaths for those ages 17 to 23 in Watauga County from 2003-2013.
