Officer Involved Shooting Leaves One Suspect Injured, One on the Run

blue cop carCHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD officers are looking for a suspect wanted for an officer-involved shooting.

Police first responded to a shots fired call around 11 p.m. Friday in the 5600 block of Farm Pond Lane.

An off-duty sergeant nearby heard gunshots and went to check out the scene. Sergeant Henry Rozell saw two suspects firing their weapons, according to police. He ordered the men to drop the guns but they allegedly took off running into an apartment complex.

Sergeant Rozell pursued them on foot, Police say the suspects stopped after a short chase and pointed their guns at Rozell, who then fired his gun.

One suspect was hit in the arm and transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He’s been identified as Franswa X. Crawford, 31. After his release from the hospital, Crawford was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, discharging a firearm within city limits and resisting arrest.

The second suspect is still missing.

Per standard procedure, Sergeant Rozell is on leave pending an outside investigation of the incident. He’s been with CMPD since 2000.
