CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Saturday night, an officer is on administrative leave after police said he shot a man who was involved in a standoff.
It happened early Saturday morning on Penninger Circle near W.T. Harris Boulevard.
Police came to the neighborhood around 1 a.m. after someone called 911 to report an assault.
When they arrived, a man said his father, 59-year-old Lemuel Furr, shot at him.
Police said Furr then barricaded himself inside of the house.
Police said they tried to talk the man out peacefully but Furr told them that he was not going to be taken alive. They said he eventually came outside with two guns and headed toward the officers.
Police said a SWAT officer shot Furr and that Furr died on the scene.
