One Charged In Fatal Wreck

The driver of a 2001 Honda Accord is being charged with manslaughter after she crashed her car into a tree, killing one of her passengers.

Sydney Danice McDaniel was driving her car on Pence Road when she lost control in a curve and struck a tree. The left rear passenger, Martha Rosales, was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition to the driver, two other passengers- one was the driver’s 11 month old son- were all taken to CMC Main with non life threatening injuries.

While at the hospital, it was determined that McDaniel had been drinking and she was charged with driving after consuming while under 21 years old. Once released from the hospital, she was arrested and transported to the Law Enforcement Center.

Based on the information gathered at the scene by the CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit, and information gathered at the hospital, McDaniel is being charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Driving, Driving after consuming while under 21 years old, Fictitious Tag on vehicle, Child Neglect, and Possession of marijuana.

The 11 month old boy remains in the hospital, where his injuries are listed as serious. The other passenger was released.
