Pastor Says Victim Was Trying to Help Teen Who Killed Him

AR-160539965The 33-year-old man who Jose Adan Lopez Rios, 17, is accused of killing had been trying to help the teen, according to the pastor of Derrick Brice’s charge.

Brice and her 26-year-old cousin, Lashea Coleman, were found dead in her Gaston County home last week.

Rev. Curtis Carter said both victims attended New Generation Harvest Church in Gastonia and were in service on the day they were suspected to have been killed. Brice had been talking on the phone trying to find work for Rios, Carter said.

Brice was Coleman’s main caregiver, who had cerebral palsy.

A balloon release was held for Brice and Coleman on Monday.
