Police Arrest Sex Offender, Former High School Teacher

AR-160509655A former high school teacher and registered sex offender has been accused of sending an officer who was investigating him harassing and threatening messages.

In October 2015, Jason Scott Webb, 47, a former English teacher at South Point High School, had pleaded guilty to soliciting sex from a child by computer.

Court documents show authorities believed Webb was calling and emailing an officer involved in the arrest.

The officer, Detective Brent Heavner, said he received at least 18 voicemails and 139 phone calls between March and April. Heavner believes that person was Webb.

The officer also received short emails that were often violent, such as suggesting Heavner kill himself with his revolver.

Police charged Webb, of Belmont, with cyber stalking, communicating threats, and harassing phone calls. He was held in Gaston County on $250,000 bond on Wednesday.

In May 2015, Webb and 16 other men were caught during a sting operation by the Lincolnton Police Department. An investigator had pretended to be a young child on the internet. Webb and the detective made arrangements to meet. After pleading guilty later, he was registered as a sex offender.
