HICKORY N.C. – A Hickory man was arrested early Sunday after he wrecked while fleeing from police.

Police responding to a fight outside Visions Martini Bar and Lounge on 1st Avenue NW saw a vehicle drive toward them and turn around.

The officers thought it suspicious that the driver turned around, so they sent out a description of the vehicle, said Lt. Jeff Young with the Hickory Police Department.

Officers on U.S. 70 located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver led police on a chase before crashing his vehicle into a utility pole near the intersection of U.S. 70 and 4th Street Drive SW, Young said.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. No one was injured.

Jesus Rivera Chavez, 20, was charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, misdemeanor driving while impaired and misdemeanor driving while license revoked. He was placed under a $10,000 secured bond.
