FAITH, N.C. — A Faith man is facing charges after authorities say they discovered a methamphetamine lab inside a home where young children were playing.

Deputies and police said they were called to Church Street after someone reported that unattended young children were playing in the roadway and yard.

Officers said when they arrived at the home they found 28-year-old Joshua Tarlton coming out of the basement. He gave them consent to search the home, where they said they found an active one-pot methamphetamine lab in the basement.

Tarlton was arrested and the Rowan County Department of Social Services was called in to take care of the children.

Tarlton is charged with one count of manufacturing methamphetamine, two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and two counts of possession of precursor materials.

Tarlton is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center on $100,000 secured bond. Officers said he has an extensive criminal record with convictions for possession of drug paraphernalia, larceny, assault on a female and possession of marijuana.
