Police Looking for Vehicle that Hit, Killed Gastonia Woman

car crashGastonia officers are searching for the person who was driving a car that crashed into and killed a woman Sunday morning on the I-85 ramp at Cox Road.

The wreck was reported about 5 a.m., but police believe it occurred about 4:30 a.m.

The victim, Tamesha Beam, had been on the way home in an SUV from Charlotte with two other women, police said.

The SUV had pulled over on the ramp at Cox Road because Beam and her sister were fighting.

Both women got out of the vehicle, and Beam’s sister said she would walk home. The driver left as well.

The other two women went to look for Beam after not hearing from her, and they found Beam dead on the road where they had seen her last, according to Gastonia Police Sgt. KC McCabe.

Police are still searching for witnesses to Beam’s death that may have been on the road at the same time, McCabe said.

There had been several accidents in that area, investigators said.
