Police See a Full House at the First of a Series of Transparency Meetings

cic-default-bluelightThere was a full house for the first of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s transparency workshops on Wednesday night.

The transparency workshops are the police department’s response to the recent shooting of Keith Scott by officer Brentley Vinson in September. The deadly shooting resulted in both peaceful demonstrations, and violent riots that ended in the death of one civilian by another civilian, and the injury of several other people.

Police hope that in holding these workshops, they can create an atmosphere of transparency where members of the community can see the inner workings of the police department, understand its methods, and have the opportunity to ask questions and state their opinions.

Police are especially excited to hear what the community has to say. They say they are particularly interested to hear suggestions and ideas from individuals as to how the CMPD can better serve the community.

Wednesday’s workshop was part of a three day event during which CMPD hope to open clear lines of communication between them and the public, as well as opening their doors to the public. The next meetings will be in February and March. You can sign up for the event here.
