GASTONIA, N.C. – Two women exchanged words and punches were thrown on Friday at a children’s soccer match. On Tuesday, Wendy Marie Shaw, 30, of 214 Woodberry Lane , Gastonia was charged with simple assault.

The accuser, 31-year-old Melanie Pearson Addis, was watching a child’s soccer game when the fight started. According to arrest records, Addis felt the coach had not played all of the kids on the team.

When her husband went to talk to the coach about their concerns, she followed a short time later with her 1 and a half year old in a stroller and another daughter. As she approached the coach and her husband, Addis claims Shaw said something derogatory to her and proceeded to punch her.

According to the arrest records, Addis fell toward the stroller and was again assaulted by Shaw.

Shaw was charged and signed a written promise to appear in court.
