getMugPolice said they arrested a Rock Hill man after a chase involving the man pushing someone out of a van.

Kenthy Dawayne Hemphill, 30, has been charged with kidnapping, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, failure to stop for blue lights, and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within proximity of a park, jail records show. York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit officers saw Hemphill get into a van’s passenger seat on Friday as they were about to execute a search warrant at his house on Stoneycreek Lane

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it kept going to Charlotte Avenue and Cedar Street where Hemphill pushed the driver out of the van. The driver fell into the street.

The driver said Hemphill had told him to not stop and held a gun to him.

After Hemphill pushed the driver out, he kept driving and led officers on a chase until abandoning the van at the end of Haigler Street. He then fled on foot.

Hemphill was finally arrested in front of a home in the 300 block of Haigler Street while he was attempting to get into another vehicle, according to the report.
