CMPD Investigating Shooting on Elgywood Lane

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 6000 Block of Elgywood Lane. North Tryon Division officers responded to the scene shortly before 10:00 pm last night. The victim, Darrel Christopher Berringer, was shot multiple times and transported to Carolinas Medical Center with what appears to be life threatening injuries.

Officers and Medic responded to a call for service in reference to one subject being shot. Mr. Berringer was walking in the 6000 block of Elgywood Lane when an unknown suspect jumped from a wooded area and began shooting. The unknown suspect is described as being a black male and wearing a mask.

Homicide Detectives were notified and are currently investigating this case. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

CMPD Detectives Investigating Homicide on Countryside Drive

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives are investigating the shooting death of Servando Barriquera Roldan, 32. The shooting occurred just after 4:30 am at 6338 Countryside Drive off of North Tryon Street.

Police say Officers and Medic responded to a call for service in which the caller indicated they had heard multiple shots fired and reported that a Hispanic male was lying in the doorway of an apartment, bleeding. The victim had been shot several times and was pronounced deceased at Carolinas Medical Center shortly before 5:30 am.

CMPD officers and detectives have been canvassing the neighborhood and are interviewing people who may have knowledge of the incident. Some people reported seeing a large dark-colored SUV occupied by three Hispanic males, possibly late teens or early 20’s, driving away at a high rate of speed immediately after the shots were fired. The motive for the shooting is unclear.

Drive-By Shooting at IHOP Leaves 1 Injured

Shortly after 3:00 am, someone opened fire outside the IHOP restaurant located on Woodlawn Road. One person was hit in the arm during the shooting and seven cars sustained bullet hole damage.

Police said the shooter(s) were driving a white Chevrolet Avalanche. If you have any information about the shooting, please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Man Carjacked & Shot

Shortly before 3:30 am, a man was shot after he was carjacked and forced to drive around.

Police say the victim told them two men pulled up behind him while he was at a stop light at Farm Pond Lane and Albemarle Road. The victim said the men were driving a gray Saturn.

The victim said the men got into his vehicle and forced him to drive to Pegram Street. The suspects then shot him in the leg and stole his car. Police have not released any suspect information.

Teen Robbed & Shot in West Charlotte

A 14-year old boy is in critical condition after he was shot and robbed Tuesday evening while walking with a friend along a dead end path near Kenhill Drive.
Three unknown black males approached the teens and both teenage boys were robbed of their sneakers, earrings, cell phones and $30 in cash. One of the robbery suspects shot the 14-year old during the robbery.

Three Shot & One Killed during Wildwood Ave Shoot-Out

Shortly after 10:30 pm, two men were injured and one was killed during a shoot-out at an apartment complex near Wildwood Avenue. Police arrested Todd Cox (Shown R) and charged him with murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say Jeffrey Green-Williams, 27, died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the shooting. Danny Antonio Accor, 43, and Thomas Elliot Vinson, 30, were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

CMPD Officer Shoots Man on Statesville Road - Updated

UPDATED: Around 10:00 this morning, two CMPD Officers responded to a residence on Statesville Road after receiving a 911 call about an occupied suspicious vehicle. The Officers approached the vehicle and found 29-year old Jason Earnest Chappell sitting inside.

According to CMPD, Officer Jackson was on the passenger side of the vehicle and Officer Rahal approached the driver's side of the car. The Officers instructed Chappell to place his folded knife on the passenger side seat and he complied.

As Officer Jackson opened the passenger door to retrieve the knife and Chappell started the vehicle, put the car in reverse and immediately accelerated. Officer Jackson was trapped in between the door and the vehicle while the vehicle was in motion. Officer Jackson commanded Chappell to stop and when he failed to comply, he fired his service weapon once- striking Chappell.

Medic transported Chappell to the hospital and he is currently listed in stable condition. CMPD Homicide detectives have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Jason Chappell for Assault With A Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer. The warrant will be served when Mr. Chappell is released from the hospital.

Prior to this incident, Chappell had four outstanding Orders for Arrest in Mecklenburg County and numerous warrants from Cabarrus County.

17-Year Old Shot & Killed - Suspect Arrested

Shortly after 11:00 last night, CMPD Officers responded to 2601 South Boulevard in reference to a report of a man shot. Ulisses Alejandro Mayo, 17, was transported to CMC and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Police say the shooting occurred outside a home on Belton Street and Mayo was a passenger in a car when he was shot. WCNC News is reporting that there was children's birthday party at the house where Mayo was shot. The party was just wrapping up when a fight occurred and gunshots rang out. After Mayo was shot, the driver of the vehicle drove Mayo to South Blvd. and called police.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested a suspect in the case. He has been identified as 34-year-old Juan Alberto Irias.

Man Shot In Home after Attempted Robbery

Early this morning, an innocent bystander was shot inside his home on Amberly Lane by two men who attempted to rob a family member outside the home.

Police say one of the residents of the home reported he went outside when two black male suspects approached him and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim ran inside his home and the two robbers started shooting at him through his front door.

A family member was sleeping on the couch inside the home when he was shot in the groin. He was driven to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Out-of-Towners Robbed, Shot & Carjacked on Sunset Road

Shortly after 1:00 this morning, two men from Tennessee stopped to ask for directions at a gas station located off Sunset Road.

The men were approached by three black males who robbed them at gunpoint, shot one of the men and stole their rental car- which police recovered a short time later. Police say the victim's injuries are not life-threatening.

Woman Brutally Attacked in North Charlotte

UPDATE: Latosha Early passed away overnight.

Early this morning, CMPD Officers and Medic responded to 2006 Southwind Dr. after receiving a 911 call from a 9-year old boy who said his mother was hurt and bleeding from her head.

Upon arrival, police found 27-year old Latosha Early suffering from a severe head injury. She was transported to CMC and is currently being kept alive on life support.

Police say it appeared her home had been broken into, however, it isn't known if she knew her attacker(s). Officers took the four young children from the home to provide counseling support and other assistance. The victim's husband, Damon Early, has been cooperating with the investigation.

Burglar Shot & Critically Injured by Homeowner

Last night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers responded to 3421 Shamrock Drive after receiving a 911 call regarding a residential burglary and shooting incident.

Police say the investigation revealed that Rontrey Digsby (Shown R) illegally forced entry into an occupied residence. As Digsby gained entry, he was shot by the homeowner and is in critical/stable condition at CMC. Digsby is charged with first degree burglary.

As usual, Digsby has a long rap sheet going back to 2003 when he was convicted of common law burglary at age 17. In 2004, a Judge sentenced him to probation but he continued his criminal activities (10 arrests since 2005) without any consequences... In fact, his last arrest was 10 days ago.

If the Judges won't take the thugs off the street- it is good to see citizens taking care of business!

Man Shot & Killed Inside Cricket Store

Shortly before 7:00 pm, James Henry Brewer, 54, was shot and killed by an employee of a 'Cricket' phone store on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

Police say North Division Officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Cricket Store, located in the Catawba Village Shopping Center. Upon arrival, officers found Brewer suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Police say they plan on presenting the case to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office to determine whether charges will be brought against the store employee.

Armed Robber Shot & Killed by Victim

Last night, an armed man attempted to rob two employees at Floyd's Restaurant, located on North Graham Street. One of the victim employees shot the suspect and he died of his injuries earlier today.

Police say the suspect, Madilyn Archie Baxter, 34, (Shown R) approached the restaurant owner and an employee in the parking lot as they were locking up the restaurant. Baxter was armed with a gun when he demanded money from the victims.

In response, one of the victims pulled out his gun and shot Baxter- causing serious injuries. Baxter died at the hospital the following day.

3 Teens Shot at Birthday Party; 1 Killed

Shortly before midnight, CMPD Officers responded to 4919 Beatties Ford Road in reference to three people shot in the parking lot. Police say the incident occurred after a birthday party held at the Rameses Temple #51.

Upon arrival, police found 12-year old Joshua Jackson shot to death inside a car. A second shooting victim, 19-year old Marcus Belk, was transported to the hospital by Medic. The third victim, 18-year old Quadarrick Robinson, was driven to the hospital by a friend.

Homeowner Shot after Interrupting Burglary

A man was shot this afternoon after he returned home and interrupted two men in the process of stealing from his home.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm on Short Hill Drive. Police say a homeowner and his brother returned home and discovered two men inside the home.

The homeowner and one of the suspects got into a struggle and the homeowner was shot. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two Shot at Club Onyx; 1 Killed

Early this morning, 31-year old Jeffrey Eugene Inman was killed and Jared Samuel Moore, 21, was wounded in a shooting that occurred outside Club Onyx, a strip club located on Old Pineville Road.

Police say Inman was found deceased at the scene and Moore drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He is expected to be okay.

Shootout Causes Four Car Accident

Yesterday afternoon, a shootout between two vehicles led to a four car accident at the intersection of S. Tryon Street and Arrowood Road.

Police say the exchange of gunfire occurred while the two cars were driving down the road around 2:12 pm. The shootout caused such a commotion on the road, four cars crashed at the intersection. The vehicles involved in the shooting fled the scene- one of which was a gold colored Cadillac.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting but MEDIC treated several people for minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Student Shot at Crossroads Charter High School

Around 10:00 am, police responded to the parking lot of Crossroads Charter High School in reference to a student shot.

Upon arrival, police found 18-year old Kareem Steele suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Steele was transported to CMC with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting occurred after several students got into an argument in the school parking lot. Antonio Japez Wells, 17, (R) is identified as the shooter. Wells and two other students were inside a vehicle when they drove up to the victim and Wells fired a shot.

Wells is charged with assault with a deadly weapon- intent to kill and possession of a weapon on school grounds. His bond is set at $55,000. Police say they have not filed any charges against the other two students involved and the District Attorney will review the case to see if charges should be filed.

Violent Saturday in Charlotte

On Saturday, six people were shot and one was killed in four separate shooting incidents in Charlotte. In addition, there were several occupied break-ins, robberies, officer assaults, etc. -View Crime Blotter-

  • 08:17 pm: 7200 Point Lake Drive- Three people were shot at the Lake Point Apartments. One man, 20-year old Eric Richard Byrd, died at the scene. The other two victims were transported to CMC. One of the victims has life-threatening injuries and the other suffered non life-threatening injuries.
  • 08:59 pm: Albemarle Road & Grafton Place- A man was sitting as a passenger in a vehicle when he was shot by the occupant of another vehicle. The victim flagged down an officer at Central Ave. and Sharon Amity Rd & the victim was transported to CMC with non life-threatening injuries.
  • 09:31 pm: 1500 Eastcrest Drive- A man was robbed by three black males wearing dark clothing. During the robbery, the victim was shot in the leg by one of the robbers. The victim sustained non life-threatening injuries.
  • 10:03 pm: Woodlawn Rd. & I-77 - A man was shot in the leg and transported to CMC with non life-threatening injuries.
