Shelter Offering Reward for Information on Beheaded Dog

dogThe Kings Mountain rescue group is offering a reward to anyone with information on the decapitation of a blind dog at a home Thursday.

Libby, a rescued blind beagle with no eyes, was decapitated and found in the yard of her home after it was broken into, police said.

A $5,000 reward is being offered by the Tri County Animal Shelter for any information leading to an arrest in the crime.

Libby’s owner of six years, Shirley Morrow, said she is shocked by the cruel action towards the dog that she said was smart and loving.

Morrow said Libby would often sit out in the sun and sleep under the trees in the backyard.

When Libby didn’t come inside Thursday afternoon, a family friend found the dog’s torso in the yard between the trees. Her head was gone, and its location is still unknown. Police were called to the house, located in the 100 block of South Gaston Street, about 7:47 p.m.

Someone also stole items from a shed in the Morrows’ backyard, including a propane tank, shovel, sledgehammer, and ax, Morrow said.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call King’s Mountain Police.

Cleveland County Animal Control also has officers investigating the case. They searched the backyard Friday afternoon and found Libby’s collar. They can’t currently talk about the case, the officer said.

Morrow said they are now more closely watching their other two dogs after Libby’s passing.

Investigators are searching for the person who did this.
