CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The medical examiner’s office has determined that remains found Wednesday evening in southeast Charlotte are those of a man who disappeared in February 2009.

Officials said dental records confirmed the remains belonged to 42-year-old Jeffrey Hieronymus. Medical examiners determined that his death was a suicide.

Hieronymus left his home in the Chantilly neighborhood off Independence Boulevard early one morning and never returned. Authorities searched around his home at the time and several times throughout the investigation, police said.

Hieronymus’ remains were found by a construction worker at a site off Bay Street, which is behind the Chantilly neighborhood.
