Stanley Man Wrecked Truck, Abandoned Passenger

AR-160509549A man was charged this week after he left his friend following a truck wreck on Wednesday night.

Billy Todd Owings, 41, was at the intersection of Upper Stanley and Blacksnake roads when he wrecked his 2002 Dodge pickup truck, arrest records show.

He was found by a trooper walking in the Tranquility Place neighborhood heading northeast of Stanley. Records show the man smelled of alcohol and refused to take a roadside sobriety test.

Two hours later, Owings took a breathalyzer test and blew close to twice the legal limit, arrest reports show.

Police found Owings 36-year-old friend still in the wrecked truck a quarter of a mile away. Owings had been driving around 60 mph, records show.

It was unclear the extent of the friend’s injuries or if medical treatment was accepted.

Owings was jail on Thursday around midnight and charged with felony hit and run, DWI, and causing injury or death, records show. He also had his license revoked for around 30 days.
