Student Shot at Crossroads Charter High School

Around 10:00 am, police responded to the parking lot of Crossroads Charter High School in reference to a student shot.

Upon arrival, police found 18-year old Kareem Steele suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Steele was transported to CMC with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting occurred after several students got into an argument in the school parking lot. Antonio Japez Wells, 17, (R) is identified as the shooter. Wells and two other students were inside a vehicle when they drove up to the victim and Wells fired a shot.

Wells is charged with assault with a deadly weapon- intent to kill and possession of a weapon on school grounds. His bond is set at $55,000. Police say they have not filed any charges against the other two students involved and the District Attorney will review the case to see if charges should be filed.
