Suspect In Charlotte’s Latest Murder Picked Up In Virginia

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man wanted in a deadly shooting was taken into custody in Virginia early Friday.

Police said information and evidence gathered at the scene of the triple shooting that left one person dead and two others seriously injured led them to search for David Mark Fields, 44.

Police said they believe Fields shot Marcia Marie Winningham, 43, and two others at about 1:30 a.m. Friday on Filbert Lane in east Charlotte.

Winningham died at the hospital. The names of the other two victims have not been released.

Officers said they quickly notified the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team after obtaining a warrant for Fields. With the help of Virginia State Police, officers were able to find and arrest Fields, who was driving near Richmond, Va.

Fields is being held in a Virginia jail. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives are going to Virginia to interview the suspect and process his vehicle.

Fields is charged with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injuries.

Detectives said they believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.
