‘Suspicious Package’ Prompts Monroe Courthouse Evacuation

Union County CourthouseThe Union County Courthouse in Monroe was evacuated Tuesday morning following the discovery of a suspicious package in the building. Hours later, the package was determined not to be a threat by  a bomb squad.

The incident started when a package was delivered to the office of the Clerk of Court. In addition to the Clerk of Court’s office, the courthouse contains the District Attorney’s Office. When opened, the package contained unusual contents, which a spokesperson failed to identify. Shortly before 10:00 on Tuesday morning, the decision was made to err on the side of caution and empty the building.

At around 2:00 that afternoon, the bomb squads on scene gave the “all-clear” and the evacuation was lifted. No arrests have been made.
