UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A teacher’s assistant in Union County is accused of shooting her ex-husband last week.

Investigators said they were called to Jeanine Collins’ ex-husband’s house last week after a shooting.

Collins told police that her ex-husband was trying to kill himself and shot himself, investigators said.

When the man woke up in the hospital this week, he told police that Collins was lying and she had found his gun and shot him, police said.

Police said the two have been divorced for several years, but had been recently seeing each other.

Officials said there may have been another woman involved, which may have been the motive in the shooting.

Collins is a teacher’s assistant at Union Academy.

She is charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
